(WARNING, You are in for a LONG blogpost, go grab a cup of tea and come back;).)
As previously mentioned here on the blog Disney is something I very much love. Therefore I decided to get my top 10 disney movies out in the open early on hahha. This list has been very hard to narrow down and just because they are not on this list don't mean I don't like it. The ones who has made it has been the ones I constantly keep watching over and over withougt getting tired ot them and have a soft spot for more than others. Please share your favorites below I would LOVE to know! I would also say that the top 3 is really sharing number one but I had to list them so haha.
1. The hunchback of Notre Dame (1996)
This movie is one of the only Disney movies that makes me cry every single time I watch it. It has in my opinion the strongest and best disneysoundtrack of all time. The composer Alan Menken, is someone who means a great deal to me and is a name you will see frequently on this list. Every project he has been a part of has made the movie that extra magical, and for good reason. Recently they expanded the musical to stage and now an album. You can pick it up here, or on itunes.
Other than the music this disney movie really sets apart from others because it's super dark! As a kid I definitly didn't understand the message , and probably was a little bit scared of Frollo haha. However as I watched it as an adult I fell in love. I could relate, the story and music tied together and had such a beautiful political message that I was just left in awe after watching it! If you have ever felt out of place, like an outcast you will enjoy this one. With stunning animation, great music and most and foremost a great story, it has a special place in my heart. It is the most underrated Disney movie of all time, so go watch it if you haven't!!!

2. Tangled. (2010)
Yet again another Alan Menken extravaganza. I didn't even know that when I watched it but it was a great surprise. I love Tangled because it's honest, it's funny, it's caring, it's empowering, it's everything I want a disney princess movie to be. Rapunzel is goofy, not perfect by any means and clumzy. I adore that about her. I love flynn / eugene because he questions why people are singing. it's such simple comedy, but so effective. it's so much fun when disney poke some fun at themselves Much like they did in Enchanted, but here way more sublte. The storyline is brillant and the villian is almost lovable in the musical number "Mother knows best". Rapunzel has since become my favorite princess. And btw Maxiums is the most lovable sidekick. He is so naughty but yet so funny and lovable.

3. Peter Pan. (1953)
This phenomenom will always hold a very special part in my heart as anyone who knows me will know. Although the original story is way better than this verison in my opinion it needed to be on the list for completly buyist reasons haha. But the soundtrack is beautiful and I swear to god every time i hear "The second star to the right" i feel like I am 7 years old again waiting for Peter to whisk me away to Neverland and take away all my worries. I LOVE disneys verison of Tinkerbell cause they have captured her essence perfectly, ( none of these new tinkerbell movies, that is not my tink...) She is also my favorite disney character purely because of her sass. The animation is stunning even though it's so old, and still makes children want to fly. A
true disney classic.

4. Peter Pan : Return to neverland(2002)
Here we are again with a sequel and the only one on this list. A lot of people didn't like this one because of the simalarities with the first but I beg to differ. The octopus was completley unnessicary BUT this was way different from its ancestor. The themes portrayed in this was a more real portray of growing up too fast, children in war and bombing and how that crushed a childs hopes and dreams of faires and pixiedust. It's one of the best sequels they have done, there is nods to the first one but is independent enough to be it's own thing. It's also adorable at the end where Peter and Wendy once again meet . It breaks my heart </3.

5. Aladdin(1992)
I have said it before and I'll happily say it again. Aladdin is my bae. He was my first love and at the age of 19 I would still drop everything to let him whisk me away on his magic carpet and sing " A Whole New World" with him at the top of my lungs. If we go away from my creepiness for a moment the movie is very very good! It's exiting and has an amazing cast. Like WHO can ignore what an amazing job Robin Williams did as genie? As a kid I watched this in Norwegian because well I am. but as an adult where I watched it in English I just fell in love with Williams's verison. he is the BEST genie<3.
The songs are catchy and orginal ( Alan menken you genius you!) and numbers like " One Jump a head" and "Prince ali" makes you want to get up and dance! Princess jasmine is fierce and a great role model! The animation is once again gorgeous. I actually perfer a the animation style they had in the 90's ( of course remastered but even still). It is a great story about finding one self and accepting who you are. It's also about love and friendship and sacrifice.

6. Pocahontas(1995)
As a child Pocahontas was seriously hair goals and my most watched Disneyfilm. She was my favorite disney princess. Why do you ask? Because she was so independent and bad ass of course! She stood up for her tribe and sacrificed everything to be with her love. She stood up for herself and her opinions. She didn't let anyone tell her who she was, including John Smith. She is amazing! Jon Smith and Pocahontas is forever my ulitmate disney OTP. Their love is so filled with hope and commitment. The ending KILLS me to this day. And what idiot cut "if I never knew you" from the original? It showed a new dimention of their realtionship! Thank god for the internet!
YES as you are reading this you are thinking.. but what about the sequel. Well then i answer : What sequel? There is no sequel. I denie it existence so there:P.
The music in this one is to die for as well.*coughalanmenken* The ending scene is already crushing but then the music just makes it heartbreaking. This is the most beautiful love story disney has ever made, because it's not your standard happy ending where princess meets prince, it's so more diverse than that. It has layers. The sacrifices made in war and the consequences they face are very very diverse for a disneymovie. And it also shows how people who think they are different really have the same beating heart and I think this message is very powerful and something we need more of in this world.

7. Tarzan(1999)
This is the terkjerker of the bunch from start to finish and I LOVE it. The animation is still soooo visually pleasing, like for real it's so good I fangirl everytime i see it! The music provided by Phil collins is heartwrenching yet heartwarming. At "You'll be in my heart" The fact that Jane and Tarzan connects in such a human way is amazing. The scene where their hands touch gives me the chills every single time, to me it really symbolizes that words are not always needed in order to form a connection with someone. It really gets to me for some reason.

8. Finding Nemo(2003)
FInding Nemo was one of the most watched ones in my home. It's such a funny and heartwarming tale of father and son and friendship. I was 8 years old when it came out and now I am 19 and this summer the sequel "Finding Dory" is FINALLY being released! It's a long time coming if you ask me. I wont dwell on this movie for too long all I will say is I love it very much! OH and "Just keep swimming!"

9. The emperors new groove (2000)
The Emperors New Groove is the funnies disney movie by far! I laugh from start to finish every time I watched it and I am really sad it's so overlooked. Kronk is my favorite character there by far. The fact that he sings his own theme song is so hilarious to me. David Spade as Kuzco is epic, he really makes the movie. Definitly one I watch on days I want to laugh.

10. The Lion King(1994)
If I haden't included this one people would have been mad hahah. The Lion King is a disneystaple and we all love it. Unnecessary to wite a long why, we just do. Timon and pumba are the best sidekicks ever and really set a high standard for their followers. The story is just so dark and unique and that a story about lions can have such an impact on such a lot of people to this day, says a lot alone about how great it is. Nobody would watch that if I didn't have the great story and soundtrack it was. Or the animation for that matter. Two thumbs up. Also who don't cry when SPOILER ALERT Mufasa dies? Don't lie.

And after that long, long list that I am sure bored all of you I conclude my top 10 favorite disney movies. As I said over don't kill me for not including your favorite but otherwise this list would have been too long.
Lots of love Emma xxx
